Tigerless Majors

Is it just me, or are other people finding the “Tigerless” Major Championships quite entertaining?

For one thing, you have no idea who the favorite is at the start of the tournament.

Second, a lead at the end of the third round of the tournament means nothing.

The biggest problem is that the only ones who seem to have the “stones” to take advantage of Tiger’s disabled status are the Europeans.

OK, so Ben Curtis made a nice run at his second out-of-the-blue Major Championship at this week’s PGA Championship. But that was more like lightning striking in the same place twice, than a serious run at a title.

Padraig Harrington established himself as the premier player to take advantage of an opportunity. And Sergio Garcia came close to shedding the dreaded title of Best Player Never to Have Won a Major.

And now we have a Tigerless Fedex Cup run to keep us occupied for the rest of the season.

Unfortunately, that also means a Tigerless Ryder Cup at Valhalla in September. Ooops, forgot. Even with Tiger the United States contingent has made a habit of getting their butts whipped by the Europeans.

But wouldn’t it be amazing if the Tigerless Yanks pulled off the upset of the year in golf at the Ryder Cup.

Hey Tony,

Loved your blog, St. Patrick 2 has a new title now, Celtic Tioger!!
Slightly off subject but pertinent -- When are the USGA and PGA of America going to stop presenting contrived tests in their efforts to restrict the top golfers in the world from breaking par.
What brilliant brain thought up the idea of raking thick (artificially created by the application of copious amounmts of chemicals), wet rough back towards the tees and then narrow the fairways down to side-walk width in the landing areas.
Then they tell the players "There you are lads, there's the test we have se, it's the same for everyone so go ahead out there and be humiliated. This particularly applies to their own members, who struggle in their closed championship to qualify to play with the Big Boys, but finish up unable to break 80 or higher and for the most part are onl;y 'in the way'. I'm sure the 'Big Boys' love it when they see that they are drawn with these wannabees for 2 rounds. It must be almost like playing a proi-am. In my opinion only the top 5 in their 'Championship' should qualify.
Now back to our Celtic Tiger', St. Patrick -- by what measure, other than money won, can they say that Michelson is a better competitive golfer than Harrington. Michelson has never won a tournament off American soil, he has an abysmal Ryder Cup record and in general only wins when the weather is calm and sunny.
Oh and by the way ----- Tiger who????? Just kidding!!
You know as well as I do how fickle a game golf is so we Celtic Tiger fans are 'making hay while the sun shines.

Your pal.
